Refractive
surgery is increasingly being performed on people who are
shortsighted. There are many techniques available including
Lasik, Lasek, PRK, phakic lens implants and clear cataract
extractions.
None of these treatments, however, address the problem of
floaters which is present in many myopic individuals. People
who are keen on considering refractive surgery who also have
floaters may wish to think about undergoing a combined vitrectomy
and lens extraction with insertion of an implant.
This procedure offers the opportunity of correcting shortsightedness
and getting rid of floaters simultaneously. The risks of this
procedure are, however, discussed above and should be considered
against the risks of other refractive procedures.
