What can't I do after macular hole surgery without face down posturing?

The operation involves putting a gas bubble in the eye. That gas bubble takes between 6 and 8 weeks to absorb. Because of changes in air pressure, it is vital that you do not fly until such time as the gas bubble has gone.

Most other activities are fine. You do not have to worry about bending over to tie shoe laces and picking up a bag of shopping is equally safe. There is no need to be concerned about bathing, or going out for a walk, and travel by road, rail or sea is possible.

You should not drive with a gas bubble in your eye !
