Can retinal detachments be treated?

Most retinal detachments can be treated and an operation is usually required for this. Surgery is very effective at repairing retinal detachments. In about 9 out of 10 eyes the retinal detachment can be repaired with one operation.

This means that in 1 in 10 cases further surgery may be required. Success is defined as replacement of the retina into the right position.
